yeah, new house white for this winter and it is fresh, fresh, fresh. 2009 San Clemente Sauvignon Blanc. Not the San Clemente where Nixon hung out, this wine is from the Maule Valley in Chile and that means that these wines were still grapes on the vine as recently as February or March..

Explosively bright grapefruit and melon aromas and flavors and a back nuance of the varietal 'cats pee' i swear it's there - like being near a boxwood hedge.

Tart and sassy (nicer guy that I'm being, I'm not going to say like Kimisu). This wine at this point seems to me to be better for stand alone drinking or with appetizers, not to accompany a meal.

I picked this up at on sale at 6.25; seems to regularly retail for around $9. It's a terrific wine at $6, I think it will be a satisfying money's worth at $9.

I've had a couple bottles and have a couple bottles. i plan on picking up four more to tide me thru the winter - well, at least into the new year.

Get your nose into a glass of this young Chilean, the 2009 San Clemente Sauvignon Blanc

I had always enjoyed the Banfi Col di Sasso since I first had it back a long time ago. I think my last vintage I had was maybe the 2003-2004 vintage. Time to look for it again. Thanks for the reminder Brom! Glad you enjoyed it too!

Another short not-really-a-review:

Banfi Col di Sasso. A proprietary blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. I think I had the 2007 for $10 (plus(or is that minus) 20%). $10 seems a common price for this wine.

I was surprised to read that they age the Cabernet in stainless steel, because I found this wine to have good depth and body and some earthiness.

I think it was well worth the money and will soon buy another.

Although I agree with your sentiment kimisu, I do have a preferred wine for this circumstance.

The best 'pre-amour' wines are auslese or better yet TBA Rieslings. Rich and unctuous, one might even say sweet, slippery and sticky - there's a good start.

One can find TBAs from 5-9% alcohol, there's a good finish.
