Met a buddy of mine at a cute little organic, farm-to-table bistro in an up and coming neighborhood in North Denver last night. We got there at Happy Hour and they had $4 glasses of their House Wine, so I thought I'd give it a try. Their house red turned out to be a Spanish wine from the Yecla region, which I thought was very cool and off the beaten path for house wines. The Castano Monastrell was delicious! It had bright berry flavors, good concentration and a nice mouthfeel (unlike some of the thin, sour Tempranillos that turned me off of Spanish wines for a while). I'd say it's the perfect wine for a chilly, drizzly fall evening shared with a good friend in a warm, neighborhood bistro. Or anywhere, for that matter!

So the hubby and I have been invited to a wine tasting in our friends' grape arbor this coming Saturday night. It's not nearly as classy as it sounds (you haven't met my friends), but I will do my best to take copious notes on whatever we end up tasting and report back to you all on Monday. I'm just so happy to be able to participate! Gotta get my rusty old palate back into good working order before our big trip to Niagara on the Lake...
