Texas Wineries

I'd like to add a few wineries to that list.

Living in the Hill Country I've been blessed to have easy close access to many of my favorite Texas wineries, and I would definitely add Sister Creek Winery and Torre di Pietra to your suggestions.

Sister Creek has very solid whites, and the people running the place are fabulous - they are the people that taught me the virtues of drinking wines from the correct glasses. Their Muscat Cannelli is my party wine - meaning that I can bring it to any party and I know it will be well-received by most - it's a treatment of the muscat grape I hadn't tried previously, and it's quite good. A little sweet, with a little carbonation to keep it light - tastes like peaches and pears.

Torre di Pietra is a new winery right by Fredericksburg - they've only been open a few years, but they have a very good Claret and make several other wines that pair excellently with "Texas-type cuisine" or anything you might have that's spicy. The owner is a University of Texas graduate with a chemistry degree, and his partner in winemaking learned the trade in France, so it's an interesting combination worth checking into if you get a chance - especially now that Texas wineries can ship out.

Texas Hills winery has a very good orange muscat for a dessert wine, and I know that this winery is on the aforementioned website.

The best wines I have ever had have not come from Texas, but there are some very consistently good wines that are reasonably priced and more than worth looking into.

If you have been to Texas you might not think of Wine, but they have some great Wineries. Specifically Fall Creek, Flat Creek, Texas Hills and Delaney. Just to name a few. I am not sure if this is the place, but you can get them at www.texaswinemarket.com

Missouri wineries

The Norton is probably the most award winning grape in Missouri. My two personal favorite Winery's that produce a Norton are in the Hermann/ New Haven area. Adam Puchta Winery and Bommarito Estate have probably the two best Nortons in Missouri. Robller Winery right up there too.

Go to Hermann if you get a chance. When you visit the wineries, they let you sample ALL their wines for a tiny fee (basically free).

As a Missouri resident, my wife and I have made a pact to visit every winery in the state. Did you know there are over 50? We have been to over half.
Hermann is a great place because you have so many in a small area. Same for SE MO around St. Genevieve.
Two of our favorites are Wenwood near Bland, and Whispering Oaks in Seymour.
Great reds!

I've heard about Sparkling wine from NM, but wasn't sure of the winery name. Gruet, huh? Might have to try it.

I've tasted their Blanc de Noir before and liked it. I haven't tried to
locate any of the Gruet wines, but when I do I'll post.

Michael, if you like the Norton (aka Cynthiana) then I have the recommendation for you.

Balitimore Bend Winery is a relatively new winery, but they make a great Norton/Cynthiana. Thier 2003 is currently selling for $12 a bottle. Balitimore Bend is location between Lexington and Waverly on Hwy 24, so it is an easy afternoon trip from Kansas City.

Another good place to get Cynthiana is from Hienrichshaus Winery down by St. James. I have have been sampling his pretty much every year since 1995 and it is consistently good. However, his winery is a really small operation and he is often sold out of Cynthiana.

Both of these places also make quality Chambourcin wines.

Had a bottle of Gruet Blanc de Blanc yesterday at a friend's house and found it to be exceptional. They told me that the winery is in Albuquerque. You really should try it. I'm going to buy some. As I find out more details. I'll fill you in.

Michael,

I think the new topic was correct, so I moved the original question over to the new topic.

You were close on adding the link. Before you type anything regarding the link, just click the "http" button in the top bar, then enter the URL, then enter the text to appear for the link.
