Hey talking about Greek wine up in the lounge reminded me of Greek food. Anybody do Greek food? Other eastern med cuisines?

Great food for snappy crisp whites and big reds.

There's a new local in town, thank god the old local was replaced after closing, which offers what they call mezze, which is like a greek variant of tapas, a bunch of small dishes. For $35 ($30 for a table of eight) they will bring you up to 50 different dishes.

I tried to take it on myself - as noted elsewhere, with humility I say that I am a trencherman of some local repute - I had to pull a Roberto Duran, put my hands up and cry "No mas!"

No mas. I don't recall ever telling anyone to stop bringing me food.

II know, I know. You're thinking "What, no baklava and a glass or so of Mavrodaphne wine?"

From my experience, there are only a few wines that compliment the rich and tasty flavor of Indian food. The next time your dining at an Indian food restaurant, try your meal with the Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, or Cabernet Franc. It might be an acquired taste but you might as well try!

I've never thought about pairing a cab sauv with ahi tuna before, but I could see how that would work if it was pepper-crusted. I'll have to try it sometime!

I have to say my favorite wine and chocolate pairing is a bittersweet chocolate and a Cabernet Sauvigon. They compliment each other extremely well because the intensity of the flavor behind the bittersweet chocolate need to be matched with stronger red wines with concentrated fruit notes. A Malbec or a Merlot also works with the bittersweet chocolate.

Kimisu,

A couple dishes that pair amazingly with a full body Cabernet Sauvignon is the steak au poivre or the pepper-crusted ahi tuna, an amazing combination!

Boy , they will pour alcohol and extra sugar into anything over there at St. Barts.

I see they make Merlot, Pinot Noir, and Syrah ports too.

Winemaker seems a bit nuts tho'. Among the recommended food matches for his Zinfandel Port are crab cakes and blackened fish. Anything is possible I guess. but, uh...port & crabcakes? Have a little vinho verde with your almond torte after.

I just had a Banyuls the other day, which, if I remember to make note of the name, I will review soon. Banyuls and chocolate is a classic match, but hey, I don't disagree with the crowd all the time.
