Consider looking into the Swanson 'Alexis'. Its an excellent red blend that is primarily Cabernet, and in my experience quickly becomes a favorite of all who are Cab fans. Check it out at: http://www.shopswansonsalon.com/wine_03Alexis.htm Of course the vineyard always prices the bottles for higher prices than they generally retail for. I should expect you to be able to find a bottle for about $50 at your local wine merchant.

You want to "spend at most $100". The real issue is what is the amount you 'most want to spend'?

There are terrific CA Cabernets available anywhere from $25 through $100. The Grgich sells for about $60.

Try the 2002 Frei Brothers Alexander Valley Cabernet. It is easily located and retails for about $20. This is one of my all time favorite - keep in stock- wines. Taste and post your review, I'd enjoy reading it.

i have a 1987 cab sav

hi all, just checking to see if anyone can help.I have coome across a Cab Sav 1987 vintage, Dennis of McLaren Vale - Daringa Cellars. Can anyone give me some back ground on it ?
Finding it hard to get info from the daringa cellars site. Trying to find out if anyone knows about this wine, their thoughts and if they have any idea what it might be worth. I would LOVE to drink it but appreciate the fact that I might just be better off holding onto it.
comments appreciated.

It was my first cabernet . . . so I have no point of comparison. It was quite strong, and a bit bitter . . . whew! Before this, I had only drank stuff like Arbor Mist . . . yeah, I know . . . it's probably not even wine, but I figured I should start somewhere! LOL!

I think I'll have to try something a bit lighter, fruitier, before I try to tackle a cabernet again. I bought a Merlot as well, haven't tried it yet -- perhaps I'm biting off more than I can chew?

I read a bunch of positive reviews on 2001 Ch. Ste. Michelle Cabernet Sauv. One that I've heard is good is called Aia. It is produced by Miner Family Vineyards from the same grapes as their much more expensive Miner Family Cabernet. It is a Napa Valley Cab and the people I know that have had it say it's a pretty good deal. Give it a try and post you finding back here. Also, let us know how you liked the Chateau Ste. Michelle...
