Wow! Yummy Rodizio!

Dao, has some good wines. To me, rustic is synonymous to Portuguese wine. Lately, I've been coming across more of the modern types which I prefer.

Brom, if you come across the Berco Infante another Portugal bargain which people rave about for $5, grab it. Knowing you tastes somewhat, you might enjoy this one. It was okay for me but it might suit your palate better.

Good advice Elron.

I think most of us (well, me for sure) have been guilty of the rushed grab off the shelves.

Portuguese, eh? Oddly enough, I have been doing some inexpensive Grao Vasco Dao to go along with my rodizio grilled steak dinners. This is more traditioanlly styled Portuguese - read that as "rustic".

A cautionary tale for those who want to age all their wines. I knew you wouldn't let us down and stay away , Elron. You're "old-guard" at the Forums at Wine Web.

To add to the story of D'oh!
I was up in North Jersey visiting family and had a few minutes to run inside a liquor store and see what kind of wines they had. While rushing and seeing what were some bargains I could pick up, I pick out the Montevina without even looking at the vintage. D'oh! Shame on me! Besides Brom's caution of cellaring your wine too long don't buy too old of vintages unless they are cabable of being "stored" "ageworthy" wines. There is sometimes a reason for the sales!

At one of my local stores I get my wines, they still have plenty of Indigo Hills 2000 Cabernet on their shelves; However, in it's prime it was some really good juice but it's passed it's time a few years back.

Find knowledgeable wine people at local store if you can if you're just starting out. My guys have no clue and I don't even think they even know what wine taste like.

A week after that, I went to a family function where they had 10 year old vintages of some Portuguese wines that were way past their time. Luckily, I had found a stash of 2005 Portuguese wines that were awesome. It was definitely a Touriga Nacional grape. Either by producer Alvaro Castro or it was a Quinta de Cabriz. Either way it was beautifully balanced wine with some smoke and fruit coming through. A more modern Portuguese wine than I'm use to having.

Hey Brom, what's up?

I'll have to add more besides Brom's cautionary tale of holding wine later because the laptop isn't cooperating at this point much like the Montevina!

Speaking of Zin, I just saw the other day a new paso Robles Zin on the market, 548 Zinfandel.

Just in time for baseball season, Mike Schmiidt - possibly the greatest third baseman of all time - is sponsoring the wine for charity.

Any fightin' Phils fans tried this with a cheese steak?

Had a past it's prime 2002 Montevina Zinfandel. Copper and super high alcohol called for it being poured out. Had a 2005 L De lyeth Merlot to salvage the day.
