The Loire Valley is famous for its white wines. None of them use Chardonnay as a main wine grape variety, instead Chenin Blanc or Sauvignon are widely used. About 75% of the Loire Valley production is made of white wine. Although Loire is a land of white wine, some red wines produced are very interesting. The Loire Valley is considered by many as the most beautiful wine region in France and in the world. The Loire Valley region is wide and follows the river, starting in the Auvergne and Massif Central and finishing in the Atlantic coast around Nantes city. The Loire wine region follows the Loire river in its valley, and hence its name. The Loire wine region follows the Loire river in its valley and the rivers flowing into Cher, Loir, Layon, and other rivers. The weather in the Loire Valley varies from Atlantic weather in the West with mild winters and summers to the Continental in the east with cold winters and warm summers. The wines of the Loire Valley reflect the mood of the landscape with approximately three quarters of the production being white wines that are soft, pleasant, charming and light. The main grapes of the Loire Valley are Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon for white wine and Cabernet Franc for red wine.
