The Crofut Family Winery & Vineyard is a 63-acre farm and vineyard. There are 6.5 acres of commercial vines planted in 2003-2004, including University of Minnesota varieties: Frontenac, Frontenac Gris, and LaCrescent. The test vineyard, located at the entrance to the property, is assessing experimental grape vine varieties for hardiness, disease resistance and of course, taste!
The winery's centerpiece is a renovated dairy barn first raised in 1886 surrounded by a historic Minnesota German styled farmhouse built in 1872. As Scott County Minnesota's first commercial vineyard and winery, native-American grapes mingle with the cold-hardy grape vines developed by the University of Minnesota and the father of cold hardy grapes, Elmer Swenson.
As the first winery in Scott County, Crofut Vineyards extends over 6 acres of commercial vineyards in a scenic setting halfway between Prior Lake and New Prague on Minnesota Highway 13.
