Salitage

  Pemberton: remember the name. This winery is situated in a relatively new viticultural area, but there is little doubt that it will be unknown for long.

This winery only makes two wines, a Pinot Noir and a Chardonnay, and both of them are done exceptionally well.

Established in 1989 by John Horgan after spending a decade as an active invester and co-director in the renowned Burgundy Domaine De La Pousse D'or.

The owners of the vineyard land have kept daily weather records for the past 65 years enabling the winemakers at Salitage to know that there has never been frost during the crucial period of budburst in the vines. Knowing this just adds to the belief that the future vintages of this very special winery will continue to be outstanding.

Salitage is a small to medium sized family winery that exports approximately 40% of its production to Japan, the USA and Europe and its wines have received outstanding reviews both at home and overseas.

The famous winemakers of the world acknowledge this statement as a truism which attributes resultant wine quality to the quality of the grapes.

Salitage place great emphasis on the vineyard and only estate grown fruit is made into Salitage wine in their own winery located on the estate.

The Salitage Winery is located adjacent to the vines and has been designed to take advantage of gravity flow of the juice and wine wherever possible. Traditional wine making procedures have been adopted and these are complemented by the technological advances in modern day equipment.

Robert Mondavi of California introduced John Horgan to the fine wine business in the early 1970's.

Mondavi's influence and his commitment to quality had a profound effect on John Horgan who started at Leeuwin Estate and later purchased an equity interest in the famous Domaine De La Pousse D'or in Burgundy, France.
