One of the world's rare wineries that is content to produce just one wine --a Cabernet Sauvignon dominated blend.
An organic winery long before it was trendy to be such a thing.
The vineyard is situated in an ultra-cool, high altitude area in the state of Victoria. Many experts originally thought the winery founder was mad for wanting to produce wines in this area. The winery was established in a growing area with no viticultural history, hence the name .... Virgin Hills.
So dedicated to quality is Virgin Hills that they did not release wine in 1989 because it was not good enough.
From the first vintage, 1973, right through to today, these wines have been considered great by some of the most renowned wine writers and critics: Oz Clarke, James Halliday and Hugh Johnson.
