The Cullen family were among the viticultural pioneers of the Margaret River area of South Western Australia, 200 miles south of Perth.
Winemaking is carried out by Diana and Vanya Cullen, a mother and daughter operation.
They use only grapes from their own vineyards which have always been dry farmed and hand pruned and harvested. Quality, flavor and interest are what they are aiming for with their wines.
Respected for their Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot blend with its complex, tight bordeaux structure, which accounts for 3,000 cases. They prefer French oak and use about 40% new oak with each vintage.
Cullen's 53 acres greatly benefits from the influence of the Indian Ocean, which lies a scant two miles away. The soils on the site are very old, granite and gravely, sandy loam. A program of re-trellising was instigated to maximize fruit exposure.
