With years of experience serving the public in their own 31/2 star ristorante, Alex, 1982 graduate of the California Culinary Academy and Charlie are making serious wines at a price people can afford. Its worth finding your way to the intersection of Highway 101 and Highway 25 near Gilroy, 30 minutes south of San Jose and 40 minutes northeast of Monterey and Carmel Rapazzini has a great tasting room featuring small lots of delicious affordable California wines. Alex and Charlie Larson are creating great reds like sangiovese, merlot, syrah, unique specialty wines - apribella a peach and apricot blend, vino de cafe a coffee wine great for afterdinner or to make tiramisu, red raspberry and almond sparkling wine, some say champagne as well as the traditional favorites like chardonnay, riesling and of course zinfandel both kinds hehe red and white :). The famous Chateau de Garlic Drinking wine and cooking wines too are made here in Gilroy, the Garlic Capital. Fun, knowledgeable people including the owners serve at the 40 foot long pounded copper bar in the open beam ceiling tasting room, which many say is the nicest in the central coast area. Note the clever stained glass windows of The Rapazzini Wine Guy which has been painted on the huge silos south of gilroy for years.
